Senate Bill 318 Summary: Parents' Right to Know

• Local boards of education must maintain a continuous repository of all objectives, curricula, texts, and materials used in programs on reproductive health, mental and emotional health, growth and development, anti-bullying, and anti-harassment

• Materials must be available for in-person review at a central location and posted electronically on the school district's website, with links to publisher materials where available

• School districts must provide written and electronic notice to parents at least 14 days before students participate in these programs, informing them of review rights and participation options

• Local boards must adopt policies allowing parents to either consent to or withhold consent for their students' participation in any or all of these programs

• For new or modified programs, school districts must conduct a public hearing with at least 10 days' public notice and provide parents 60 days' advance written and electronic notice including detailed descriptions of objectives, proposed changes, and all materials to be used
