Local boards of education must verify that adjunct instructors have not received unsatisfactory performance evaluations from other employers within one year prior to contract and must retain documentation of prior evaluations.

Adjunct career and technical education instructors are limited to 10 hours per week employment and must complete preservice training in disability identification, student behavior management, de-escalation techniques, and safe use of seclusion and restraint.

Adjunct K-12 core academic subject instructors from higher education institutions may be employed for less than 20 hours per week or less than six consecutive months and are ineligible for paid leave, retirement system participation, or state health benefits.

Both adjunct instructor types must pass criminal history checks, are not required to hold teacher licensure, and must undergo observation and evaluation during their contract term to maintain satisfactory performance standards.

The act is effective upon becoming law and applies to all contracts entered into on or after that date.
