Durham Public Schools Board of Education may contract with private entities to construct, provide, or maintain affordable rental housing on property owned by the Board or Durham County.

Board may enter into lease agreements for housing units restricted exclusively to Durham Public Schools teachers and other employees.

Board has authority to establish reasonable rents and may charge below-market rates at its discretion.

All affordable housing units must comply with applicable building codes, zoning ordinances, and health and safety statutes, rules, and regulations.

Act becomes effective upon enactment.
