Pitt County Board of Education may determine school opening and closing dates for the 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024 school years, deviating from standard state requirements under G.S. 115C-84.2(d)

Board must hold a public hearing to determine whether to depart from state calendar requirements and receive parent and community input before making any decision

If the Board decides to depart from state requirements, it must hold an additional public hearing to allow parent and community input on the specific opening and closing dates selected

Pitt County Board of Education must report to the Department of Public Instruction and the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by October 3, 2023, on implementation results, effects on student achievement, and recommendations for modifying or expanding the calendar flexibility

This act becomes effective upon enactment
