Appropriates $750,000 in nonrecurring General Fund dollars to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina for construction of a new food bank facility in Wilmington for the 2021-2022 fiscal year

New facility will be approximately 30,000 square feet, nearly triple the current size, and provide 500% increase in cold storage capacity for fresh foods and proteins

Food Bank serves over 100 partner agencies across Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, and Pender Counties with more than 107,200 food-insecure people in the region, including over 32,000 children and at least 29,000 seniors

Expanded facility will improve food distribution efficiency and disaster response capabilities, particularly relevant given the Food Bank's distribution of nearly 15 million pounds of supplies following Hurricane Florence

Act becomes effective July 1, 2021
