State Board of Education shall adopt a policy requiring all public secondary schools (grades 6-12) to provide students with information on child abuse and neglect, including age-appropriate sexual abuse education.

Schools must distribute an annual document to all students and post visible displays in high-traffic areas containing warning signs of abuse, the county department of social services reporting telephone number, confidentiality protections, and available resources including an anonymous safety tip line application.

Local boards of education, charter schools, regional schools, and laboratory schools are required to implement the state-adopted abuse and neglect awareness policy.

Information reported to authorities shall be held in the strictest confidence to the extent permitted by law.

The act is effective upon enactment and applies beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.
