HB 224 - Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact Summary

• Establishes the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact to allow occupational therapists and assistants to practice across member states using a "Compact privilege" based on a valid license from their home state.

• Creates the Occupational Therapy Compact Commission with representatives from each member state to promulgate rules, maintain a data system tracking licensure and adverse actions, and oversee interstate practice standards.

• Requires member states to implement criminal background checks, participate in a shared data system, establish continuing education requirements, and report adverse actions and investigations to other member states.

• Permits remote states to take disciplinary action against practitioners' Compact privileges while preserving the home state's exclusive authority over the primary license, and establishes procedures for reinstatement after disciplinary action.

• Becomes effective when 10 states have enacted the Compact; allows active duty military members and their spouses to maintain a home state designation and practice privileges across multiple states.
