Teachers may count hours spent attending mandatory training programs toward continuing education credit requirements if the training is required by state law or local board of education policy as a condition of employment.

Teachers must have otherwise met all applicable licensure renewal requirements (literacy credits, subject area credits, digital teaching and learning credits, and other State Board requirements) before mandatory training hours can contribute to their continuing education calculations.

State Board of Education cannot require continuing education credits focused solely on digital teaching and learning, but may require up to two credits that include digital teaching and learning pedagogy as a component of general or content-specific continuing education.

Licensure renewal rules must be reviewed by the State Board at least once every five years to integrate digital teaching and learning into renewal requirements.

The act is effective upon enactment and applies to all teacher licenses renewed on or after that date.
