House Bill 560 - Public Safety Reform Summary

• Transfers probation officer oversight from the Secretary of Public Safety to the Department of Adult Correction, effective January 1, 2023.

• Increases maximum daily pay for inmates with special skills from $3.00 to $5.00 per day, effective January 1, 2023.

• Raises crime victim compensation limits from $30,000 to $45,000 aggregate and increases funeral/burial expense coverage from $5,000 to $10,000, effective August 1, 2022.

• Authorizes the Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission to issue temporary or conditional revocation orders and enter them into the Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Automated Data System (CJLEADS).

• Establishes a Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) Fund for the North Carolina Geodetic Survey's Real Time Network operations and allows the Department of Public Safety to use up to $500,000 for an online crime victim compensation application process.
