Honors the life and memory of Douglas Yates Yongue, who was born March 20, 1937, in Lumberton, North Carolina, and died March 21, 2019, at age 82.

Yongue served in the North Carolina House of Representatives for eight terms from 1994 to 2011, serving on Education, Ethics, Rules, and Appropriations committees as cochair.

During his legislative tenure, Yongue focused on education issues and rural educational opportunities, working across party lines to improve state education laws and establishing a meeting space for stakeholders to discuss education policy.

Yongue had a 33-year career as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent, and also worked as a real estate agent and licensed contractor; he received numerous awards including the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in 2009 and Distinguished Friend of Education in 2008.

General Assembly extends sympathy to Yongue's surviving family, including his wife of 57 years Mildred Hurley Yongue and two children, and directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy to his family.
