H614 - Lemon Law for Emergency Vehicles

• Expands North Carolina's lemon law protections to include emergency vehicles (fire department vehicles, law enforcement vehicles, and ambulances) owned or used by state agencies, municipalities, counties, volunteer fire departments, or volunteer rescue squads.

• Requires manufacturers, co-manufacturers, and post-manufacturing modifiers to correct warranty defects in emergency vehicles that are identified and reported within a specified period.

• Applies existing lemon law remedies to emergency vehicles, including manufacturer obligation to repair defects within one year or 12,000 miles, or provide vehicle replacement or refund if defects cannot be corrected after reasonable attempts.

• Establishes that emergency vehicles weighing over 10,000 pounds are included in coverage, unlike standard lemon law which previously excluded vehicles over that weight limit.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2021.
