Requires health benefit plans offered by insurers in North Carolina to ensure cost-sharing requirements for diagnostic breast cancer examinations are no less favorable than those for screening examinations.

Defines diagnostic examinations for breast cancer to include low-dose mammography, breast magnetic resonance imaging, and breast ultrasound when medically necessary to evaluate abnormalities seen on screening or detected by other means.

Maintains existing coverage requirements for low-dose screening mammography based on age and risk factors, including annual mammograms for at-risk women, baseline mammograms for women 35-39, biennial mammograms for women 40-49, and annual mammograms for women 50 and older.

Requires mammography facilities to meet accreditation standards established by the North Carolina Medical Care Commission.

Takes effect October 1, 2021, and applies to insurance contracts issued, renewed, or amended on or after that date.
