State Board of Education shall integrate Black history and Native American history education into middle school and high school English courses, social studies courses, and other appropriate courses.

State Board of Education shall develop optional curriculum for Black history elective and Native American history elective courses that may be offered in middle and high schools.

Black history content standards must include the Wilmington Insurrection of 1898, the 1960 Greensboro Sit-In, and the Desegregation of North Carolina schools in 1971.

Native American history content standards must include the forceful removal of Native Americans from North Carolina land in 1838 as part of the Trail of Tears.

Department of Public Instruction shall provide curriculum content and local boards of education shall provide professional development for teachers; standards apply beginning with the 2022-2023 school year.
