Updates G.S. 131D-4.4A to require adult care homes to implement and maintain written infection prevention and control policies consistent with national standards and CDC guidelines.

Mandates infection control policies include procedures for bloodborne pathogen prevention, sanitation, personal protective equipment use, hand hygiene, respiratory precautions, and reporting of communicable diseases to local health departments.

Requires adult care homes to designate one on-site staff member per facility knowledgeable about CDC infection control guidelines to direct infection control activities and ensure staff training within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Specifies that nonsupervisory staff members designated to direct infection control activities must complete an infection control course developed by the Department.

Becomes effective October 1, 2021.
