Changes language requiring "participating schools" to purchase catastrophic insurance to specify "public school units" must purchase catastrophic insurance for high school interscholastic athletic activities.

Allows public school units to purchase additional catastrophic and other accident insurance for students beyond the required catastrophic coverage.

Redefines "participating school" as a high school in a public school unit that elects to offer interscholastic athletic activities, replacing the previous reference to G.S. 115C-407.50.

Clarifies that covered activities include interscholastic athletic activities authorized, sanctioned, or scheduled by a participating school, including school-supervised practice, game-related activity, and related travel.

Effective upon enactment.
