H 967: UNC/CC/Hunger Free Campus Initiative

• Establishes the Hunger Free Campus Initiative at all University of North Carolina constituent institutions and state community colleges to address student hunger and food insecurity.

• Requires constituent institutions to designate a campus employee to assist students with meal information, provide on-campus food pantries or partner with local food banks, and establish meal sharing programs allowing students to donate unused meal plan credits.

• Requires community colleges to designate a campus employee to help students locate meal resources and provide on-campus food pantries or regular food distributions, with optional partnerships with local food banks.

• Appropriates $1,600,000 in recurring funds ($100,000 per institution) to University of North Carolina constituent institutions and $5,800,000 in recurring funds ($100,000 per campus) to community colleges beginning fiscal year 2021-2022.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2021.
