Durham Public Schools Board of Education may contract with private entities to construct, provide, or maintain affordable rental housing on property owned by the Board or Durham County.

Housing units must be leased exclusively to Durham Public Schools teachers and other employees.

Board has authority to establish reasonable rents and may charge below-market rates at its discretion.

All housing units remain subject to applicable building codes, zoning ordinances, and health and safety regulations.

Act becomes effective upon passage into law.
