Persons convicted under human trafficking statutes G.S. 14-27.21, 14-27.22, 14-27.23, or 14-27.24 whose actions resulted in conception of a minor child are prohibited from claiming custody rights to that child.

Persons instituting child custody proceedings who have been convicted of sexually violent offenses, human trafficking offenses (G.S. 14-43.11 through 14-43.13), or sexual exploitation of a minor offenses must disclose the conviction in their pleadings.

Persons seeking custody who have been granted or denied custody in a domestic violence action (Chapter 50B) in any jurisdiction must disclose the filing of that action or proceeding in their pleadings.

Nonparents seeking or being given custody of a minor child in a consent order must attest that nothing of value has been paid or promised in exchange for the child, excluding parental support payments.

Expands human trafficking offense definition to include knowingly patronizing a person held in involuntary servitude or sexual servitude, effective December 1, 2021; remaining provisions effective October 1, 2021.
