Senate Bill 690 Summary

• Reduces North Carolina Council for Women from 20 to 20 members with new appointment distribution: 14 appointed by Governor, 2 by Lieutenant Governor, 2 by President Pro Tempore of Senate, and 2 by Speaker of House, effective July 1, 2021.

• Modifies State Youth Advisory Council to include 10 youth members elected by the Council and 10 adult members appointed as follows: 7 by Governor, 1 by Lieutenant Governor, 1 by President Pro Tempore of Senate, and 1 by Speaker of House, effective July 1, 2021.

• Changes North Carolina Internship Council from 14 to 13 Governor-appointed members while adding appointment authority to Lieutenant Governor, President Pro Tempore of Senate, and Speaker of House, each designating one member.

• Establishes staggered two-year terms for all three councils with members serving until successors are appointed and qualify.

• Effective date of July 1, 2021, applies to all appointments made on or after that date.
