H262 - School Assignment Zones

• Amends G.S. 115C-366(b) to require Onslow County Schools to assign middle and high school students to the geographically closest school to their residence based on school building capacity.

• Allows reassignment to the next closest school with available capacity if a student's nearest school has reached capacity.

• Permits Onslow County Schools to continue assigning students to magnet or special programs at other schools with parental consent.

• Grandfathers students already enrolled in middle or high schools in Onslow County during the 2022-2023 school year to remain in their current school until grade completion, with parental discretion.

• New geographic assignment policy begins with the 2023-2024 school year for all other students.
