Governor may award up to two Medal of Valor Awards to first responders annually, with a third possible under special circumstances, and one award annually to a first responder unit.

Lieutenant Governor may award up to two Medal of Valor Awards to first responders annually, with a third possible under special circumstances, and one award annually to a first responder unit.

Award recipients must be first responders or units that performed great acts of heroism while under threat of personal risk beyond the call of duty in the field.

Eligible first responders include firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, emergency medical services personnel, and rescue squad members.

Governor and Lieutenant Governor must each maintain an internet-accessible application form on a State website for Medal of Valor Award nominations.
