Administrative Office of the Courts shall study the current pay structure for North Carolina assistant district attorneys and assistant public defenders, in consultation with the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys and the Office of Indigent Defense Services.

Study must examine how federal employees receive cost-of-living increases based on geographic location and how such a system could be applied to North Carolina assistant district attorneys and assistant public defenders across different counties.

Study must analyze projected costs and feasibility of adopting a cost-of-living pay structure for assistant district attorneys and assistant public defenders.

Administrative Office of the Courts must report findings and recommendations for proposed legislation to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety no later than April 1, 2024.
