Elevates assault with a firearm against law enforcement officers, probation officers, parole officers, National Guard members, detention facility employees, emergency medical technicians, medical responders, firefighters, and law enforcement telecommunicators from Class D or E felonies to Class B1 felonies.

Increases punishment for assaulting executive officers, legislative officers, or court officers and inflicting serious bodily injury from Class F felony to Class E felony.

Expands the definition of "court officer" in G.S. 14-16.10(1) to explicitly include attorneys and individuals employed by, contracted by, or acting on behalf of county departments of social services in child welfare proceedings.

Maintains existing Class I felony for assault or affray causing physical injury to firefighters, emergency medical technicians, medical responders, and hospital personnel.

Becomes effective December 1, 2023, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
