Beginning in 2024, Henderson County Board of Public Education members shall be elected on a partisan basis at general elections in even-numbered years for four-year terms, conducted according to Chapters 115C and 163 of the General Statutes.

Candidates for the Henderson County Board of Public Education shall be nominated at the same time and in the same manner as other county officers, with members taking office on the first Monday in December.

Vacancies in positions elected on a nonpartisan basis in 2020 or 2022 shall be filled by remaining board members until the next election; vacancies in positions elected on a partisan basis in 2024 and thereafter shall be filled by appointment by remaining board members in accordance with G.S. 115C-37.1.

Members elected in 2020 or 2022 shall serve until a successor is elected and qualified, and this act does not affect their terms of office.

G.S. 115C-37.1(d) is amended to add Henderson County to the list of counties where board vacancy appointment procedures apply, with the amendment becoming effective December 1, 2024.
