NC S168

Creates new G.S. 95-28.1B prohibiting employment discrimination based on race, color, creed, religion, sex, or national origin, with explicit protection against denial or discharge based on protective hairstyles and hair-related traits.

Defines "protective hairstyles" to include bantu knots, braids, locks, and twists.

Expands the definition of "race" to include traits historically associated with race, including hair texture, hair type, and protective hairstyles.

Amends G.S. 95-241(a) to include the new anti-discrimination provision (G.S. 95-28.1B) in the list of statutes protecting employees who file complaints or participate in investigations.

Becomes effective immediately upon enactment and applies to all employers, employees, and prospective employees from that date forward.
