ABC stores in North Carolina are authorized to sell gift cards that can be redeemed for alcoholic beverages sold at their stores.

ABC stores may accept gift cards issued by ABC stores under different local board jurisdictions if the respective local boards have a written agreement allowing such transactions.

Gift cards sold under this provision cannot be redeemed by persons under 21 years of age.

"Gift card" is defined as a record evidencing a monetary promise that goods will be provided to the owner at the value shown, including cards with microprocessor chips, magnetic strips, stored value cards, gift certificates, or store cards.

The act becomes effective upon enactment.
