State Board of Education shall survey all identified public schools to determine buildings lacking carbon monoxide alarm and detection systems that would be required under Section 915 of the North Carolina State Building Code, Fire Prevention Code.

State Board of Education shall survey all identified public schools to assess radon gas testing needs and implementation requirements.

State Board of Education shall report findings to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by December 15, 2023, including the number of non-equipped buildings statewide and by school, plus estimated costs for permitting, installing, and inspecting systems.

Survey covers schools in public school units (excluding charter schools), North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, UNC School of the Arts, schools operated by Department of Health and Human Services, and schools operated by Division of Juvenile Justice.

Act becomes effective upon enactment.
