Senate Bill 432: K-3 Class Size Waiver

• Adds new waiver provisions to North Carolina General Statute 115C-301(g) allowing local school administrative units to waive kindergarten through third grade class size requirements.

• Permits waivers for all K-3 classes in a school district when there is a shortage of qualified, licensed teachers available to teach at a specific grade level for the number of classrooms required.

• Permits waivers for all K-3 classes when a school district lacks adequate classroom space or facilities and would require facility expansion, construction, or relocation to meet class size requirements.

• Becomes effective upon enactment and applies to waiver applications filed on or after the effective date.
