NC S450

Authorizes local law enforcement agencies to destroy unclaimed firearms and firearms confiscated after conviction without restrictions based on firearm identification or condition.

Removes the requirement that firearms must lack a legible identification number or be unsafe due to wear, damage, age, or modification in order to be destroyed.

Requires sheriffs and law enforcement agency heads to maintain records documenting the destruction of firearms.

Becomes effective July 1, 2023, and applies to any firearm found or received by a local law enforcement agency on or after that date.
