Central Park School for Children in Durham County may establish a weighted lottery admissions pilot program for up to four years.

The pilot program must preserve existing weighting factors but may add new factors to assist educationally or economically disadvantaged students, including walk zones.

The pilot program is exempt from being considered a material change requiring charter modification under G.S. 115C-218.7.

School must report annually by June 15 to the Charter Schools Advisory Board detailing the weighted lottery procedures, how they differ from existing procedures, and the number of students admitted under the pilot who would not have otherwise been admitted.

The act becomes effective upon enactment and applies to weighted lotteries conducted for the 2024-2025 school year admissions process.
