Center for Safer Schools must develop and update an interactive presentation covering legal, medical, and emotional consequences of youth gun possession, substance abuse, gun violence, and gun safety.

Each local school administrative unit shall provide the presentation to all students in grades 7 and 9, with training and materials supplied by the Center for Safer Schools.

Local school administrative units must notify parents at least 14 days before the presentation and provide an opportunity for parents to opt their students out.

$900,000 in recurring General Fund appropriation is allocated to the Department of Public Instruction for the 2023-2024 fiscal year to develop training materials and support implementation.

The act becomes effective July 1, 2023, with implementation beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.
