David William Hoyle, Sr. was born February 4, 1939, in Gaston County and passed away March 29, 2023, at age 84.

Hoyle served as Mayor of Dallas at age 28 (youngest ever elected), on the North Carolina Board of Transportation from 1977 to 1984, and in the North Carolina Senate for nine terms from 1992 to 2010.

During his Senate tenure, Hoyle served as Co-Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Committee on Rules and Operations of the Senate, and Vice-Chairman of the Commerce Committee.

After retiring from the General Assembly, Hoyle was appointed Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Revenue by Governor Beverly Purdue and served from 2010 to 2013.

The Senate honors Hoyle's memory and service, extends sympathy to his family, and directs the Principal Clerk to transmit a copy of the resolution to his family.
