Department of Public Instruction shall conduct a study on cell phone policies in public school units in consultation with multiple state agencies and university institutions.

Study shall collect information on whether policies are implemented district-wide or at individual schools, specific policy types (complete ban, secure storage, or no restrictions), and impacts on learning, cyberbullying, and school safety.

Friday Institute at North Carolina State University must report findings to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee no later than June 30, 2025.

Five thousand dollars ($5,000) in nonrecurring funds appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina for fiscal year 2024-2025 to support the study.
