Grants Wilkes County Schools and Alexander County Schools exemption from state-mandated school calendar opening and closing dates, allowing local boards full flexibility to set their own schedules

Removes the statewide requirement that schools open no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and close no later than the Friday closest to June 11 for these two districts

Eliminates the need for these districts to demonstrate "good cause" (such as 8 days of weather-related closures in 4 of the last 10 years) to obtain State Board of Education waivers for earlier start dates

Applies exclusively to Wilkes County and Alexander County school systems as a local bill

Takes effect upon becoming law and applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year
