"Care and maintenance" of cemeteries is defined to include grass cutting, grave raking/cleaning/filling/seeding/sodding, shrub and tree management, and repair of enclosures, buildings, drives, walks, and memorial gardens

The Cemetery Commission gains authority to establish minimum standards for cemetery care and maintenance, working in collaboration with the North Carolina Cemetery Association

Violations of maintenance standards may result in a $50 civil penalty per day after the licensee receives 10 days written notice and a 20-day period to cure the violation

Cemetery companies must submit annual reports within 60 days of their fiscal year end detailing care and maintenance work performed, using Commission-provided forms
