Vance County Schools would be exempt from state-mandated school calendar opening and closing dates that currently require schools to start no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and end no later than the Friday closest to June 11

Removes the requirement for Vance County to demonstrate "good cause" (8 school closure days per year in 4 of the last 10 years due to weather or emergencies) to start school earlier

Grants the local Vance County board of education full authority to determine its own school opening and closing dates

Applies exclusively to Vance County Schools beginning with the 2025-2026 school year

Effective upon becoming law
