Creates a second special separation allowance option for state and local law enforcement officers with 30+ years of creditable service, calculated at 0.85% of base compensation at the time they reached 30 years multiplied by 30

Officers qualifying for both options may make a one-time, irrevocable election between the two calculation methods; if no election is made, the 30-year calculation formula applies by default

Under the new option, allowance payments cease after a period equal to 62 years minus the officer's age when they first completed 30 years of service, rather than stopping at age 62

Removes the prior requirement that at least 50% of creditable service be as a law enforcement officer for eligibility purposes, though this requirement remains for the allowance calculation criteria

Effective July 1, 2025, applying to law enforcement officers retiring on or after that date
