Removes "opposite sex" language from North Carolina's domestic violence protective order statute (G.S. 50B-1), extending eligibility to same-sex couples who live together or are in dating relationships

Amends the definition of "personal relationship" to be gender-neutral, allowing any persons who cohabit or have cohabited to seek protection orders

Expands dating relationship protections to include same-sex partners who are romantically involved over time on a continuous basis

Effective immediately upon becoming law, applying to all domestic violence protective orders issued on or after the effective date
