All licensed educators in North Carolina public schools must complete suicide prevention education annually, with one hour of training required each year alongside existing mental health training requirements

The State Board of Education must develop and provide suicide prevention education materials at no cost to K-12 school units, covering educators' roles in youth suicide awareness in greater detail than general mental health training

Training requirements apply to all K-12 school units including traditional public schools, charter schools, regional schools, and laboratory schools, effective for the 2025-2026 school year

School personnel may complete suicide prevention education through electronic delivery, videoconferencing, group in-person training, self-study, or approved programs

The Superintendent of Public Instruction must review suicide prevention education requirements beginning August 1, 2025, and every five years thereafter, with K-12 units reporting compliance to the Department of Public Instruction by September 15 annually
