UNC constituent institutions cannot deny admission to applicants solely because they are currently serving or intend to serve in uniformed services (Armed Forces, Reserve, Merchant Marine)

Admitted service members and their spouses may defer enrollment for at least 2 years (Reserve) or 5 years (other uniformed services) if requested at least 30 days prior to enrollment

Honorably discharged veterans qualify for in-state tuition without the 12-month residency requirement if they served at least 90 days active duty and meet one additional criterion: NC high school graduation after January 1, 2004, 90+ continuous days stationed in NC, or Purple Heart recipient
