Allows patients or their representatives to file medical malpractice and wrongful death lawsuits against health care providers for incidents occurring on or after March 1, 2020

Revives claims that were previously time-barred under existing statutes of limitations (G.S. 1-15 or G.S. 1-17)

Excludes cases where the patient's death or injury was the direct result of contracting COVID-19

Creates a temporary one-year window from the date the act becomes law for filing these previously barred claims

The temporary authorization expires automatically one year after the act takes effect
