Public school units must establish green cleaning policies and exclusively purchase environmentally sensitive cleaning products when economically feasible; schools where costs would increase must submit annual written notification to the Department of Public Instruction

Department of Public Instruction, coordinating with Department of Health and Human Services and stakeholders, must establish and annually update guidelines for healthy cleaning products within 180 days of the act's effective date

Requirements apply to local boards of education, charter schools, regional schools, and UNC Board of Governors-operated secondary schools; nonpublic schools with 50+ students are encouraged but not required to adopt green cleaning policies

Schools may deplete existing cleaning supply stocks before implementing new requirements in the following procurement cycle

No state funds are appropriated for implementation; effective upon becoming law, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year
