North Carolina licensing boards must issue licenses to applicants who establish state residency and hold current licenses from Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia in the same profession for at least one year

Applicants must be in good standing in all U.S. jurisdictions, have no active disciplinary actions, no disqualifying criminal history, and must have passed any required examinations in their originating state

Exemptions include healthcare practitioners, architects, CPAs, engineers, veterinarians, attorneys, pesticide applicators, structural pest control, securities dealers, on-site wastewater contractors, and motor vehicle dealers

Licensing boards must publish specific criteria and documentation requirements on their websites, and beginning October 31, 2026, must report annually on applications received, approved, and denied under this pathway

Effective October 1, 2025, applying to applications received on or after that date
