Mitchell County Sheriff's Office and Yancey County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina may enter into memorandums of understanding with Unicoi County, Tennessee, Sheriff's Office for cross-state law enforcement cooperation

Authorized activities include law enforcement special operations missions and cooperative law enforcement actions across the North Carolina-Tennessee state line

Each MOU must specify how liability claims for damage to persons or property will be shared or assigned between the jurisdictions

MOUs must limit liability exposure for Mitchell County, Yancey County, and the State of North Carolina to the greatest extent possible while ensuring public safety

Any MOU entered into under this act must be reported to the Department of Justice by November 1 of each year
