Physician assistants with 4,000+ hours of clinical experience and 1,000+ hours in their specialty may practice in "team-based settings" without direct physician supervision, though they must still work in physician-owned practices or facilities with active credentialing programs

Team-based practice excludes pain management practices, and physician assistants in perioperative settings (surgery or anesthesia) must still be supervised by a physician

Transfers regulatory authority over nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives from the joint Medical Board/Board of Nursing subcommittee to the Board of Nursing alone

Increases physician assistant representation on the NC Medical Board from one to two members, while removing the nurse practitioner position from the Board

Effective date tied to adoption of permanent rules by the Medical Board and Board of Nursing, or June 30, 2026, whichever occurs first
