Removes "opposite sex" language from North Carolina's domestic violence statute (G.S. 50B-1), allowing same-sex couples who live together or have lived together to obtain protective orders

Extends dating relationship protections to same-sex couples by striking the "opposite sex" requirement for those in current or former dating relationships

Maintains all existing categories of "personal relationship" eligible for protective orders, including spouses, parents/children, grandparents/grandchildren, those with a child in common, and household members

Effective immediately upon becoming law and applies to domestic violence protective orders issued on or after that date
