Removes "opposite sex" language from the definition of "personal relationship" in North Carolina's domestic violence statute (G.S. 50B-1), making protective orders available to same-sex couples who live together or are in dating relationships

Amends two specific categories: persons who live or have lived together, and persons in current or former dating relationships, which previously applied only to opposite-sex couples

Retains existing relationship categories that already apply regardless of sex: current/former spouses, parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, persons with a child in common, and current/former household members

Effective immediately upon becoming law and applies to domestic violence protective orders issued on or after that date
