Highway improvement contracts exceeding $100,000 must be advertised according to sections 11-11-26 and 11-11-27 of North Dakota Century Code.

For highway improvement contracts between $50,000 and $100,000, counties must seek quotes from at least two contractors when possible.

County road machinery purchases and rental agreements exceeding $50,000 must be advertised as required by law for county supplies.

Rental contracts for road machinery cannot exceed twelve months and rental rates cannot exceed 20% annually of the cash sale price, which must be clearly stated in the contract.

Counties may enter lease-purchase agreements with annual payments not exceeding $20,000 if the full purchase price is paid within five years.
