HB 1292 Summary

• Polls at all primary, general, and special elections must open between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., or at 12 noon for precincts with 75 or fewer votes cast in the last general election, with all polls within a county opening and closing at the same time.

• Polls must remain open continuously until 7 p.m. or as late as 9 p.m., with electors standing in line at closing time allowed to vote and election officers establishing procedures to determine who arrived in time.

• County commissioners or city governing bodies must designate voting places for each precinct, with incorporated cities over 1,000 population required to have at least one voting place within the city open on statewide election days.

• Counties may establish vote centers containing all precincts where any qualified county elector can vote, in addition to early voting precincts, absentee ballots, and residential precinct polling locations.

• County auditors must keep records of all mail ballots provided to qualified electors and provide election boards with lists of persons who applied for mail ballots, with notices posted at all polling places showing locations open for elections.
