Appropriates $194,327 from the general fund to the superintendent of public instruction for the biennium beginning July 1, 2011, and ending June 30, 2013, to employ a director of Indian education.

Director of Indian education shall develop and implement strategies to improve academic achievement, including achievement test scores, dropout rates, graduation rates, college preparedness, and college and workforce readiness.

Director must provide a progress report to the legislative management during the 2011-12 interim addressing student achievement, dropout rates, attendance, parent and community involvement, educational programs targeting Native American students, federal Indian education policies and procedures, and school district initiatives to reduce dropouts and increase graduation rates.
